Behind the Scenes: Scene Facts: Distant Memories

  1. The animation sequence that Bodine narrates along with was the same animation that Cameron used to pitch the movie to FOX.

  2. Cameron included this animation early in the film to help prepare the audience for the eventual sinking of the ship, making it easier to follow the love story during the disaster.

  3. The original screenplay had Old Rose stating that, "Wasn't I a hot number?" after seeing the drawing below water. Gloria Stuart and Cameron decided that line was not in character for Rose and changed the line to, "Wasn't I a dish?"

  4. All this footage was filmed in Nova Scotia, prior to any of the 1912 filming.

  5. After eating PCP laden chowder after the final day of filming in Halifax, numerous members of the cast and crew were rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Originally thought to be Red Tide (a shellfish poisoning) the cast and crew were given treatment and released.

  6. Abernathy (Bodine) had to describe the sequence without seeing the sinking animation on the screen. It was not available for live, on-set playback so the animation was composited into the television.
