Rose Down Under: Chapter 9

Rated G
© 1999 Amanda @ titanicsrose@goplay.com
based on some characters
and situations originated by James Cameron

"I'm so stupid", Patrick thought to himself. "I shouldn't have asked her. Outwardly she seems so strong and sure, but inside her heart is breaking." He looked up from his book to see Rose standing in her doorway. She had locked herself in for the better part of the day, and now she emerged like a glowing Rose.

"I see you are feeling better," Patrick stated pleasantly.

"Yes I am thanks." Rose walked towards the kitchen and began to make herself a cup of tea. She slowly turned the spoon in the cup and Patrick went back to reading his book.

Rose walked into the bright sunshine and she watched a pair of lorikeets squawk and play in the treetops. They seemed so happy and carefree. Nothing to disturb their happiness. Rose sighed and took a sip of her tea. Jack was with her all through every day. She didn't have a moment without a thought of Jack. As she closed her eyes Rose could vividly see his face. The way his hair flipped easily across his face as he drew her that fateful night. She would never forget him. He would be with her always. Why was finding it so difficult to move on? He had taught her to Make Each Day Count and he had shown her there was so much more to life. He had opened so many doors. But Rose know what she was going to do. She could stay with Patrick, settle down in Australia and so many other things. But she knew she would never go back to her mother

Suddenly a gust of wind surged past. Rose stumbled back a few steps, all the birds were in an uproar as they were thrown from their branches. Rose regained her balance and walked back inside, placing her cup and saucer on a bench.

"I am going out for awhile," Rose said while tying her hair back off her face.

"Do you need any company?" Patrick innocently suggested.

"Rose shook her head swiftly and walked back out the door.
